Now, I tend to be a bit OCD and research the heck out of everything but I'm also a person that doesn't take something at face value and I always look at alternates, most especially when I don't like the original answer. So I carefully began some research, bought a few books, found a few web sites and put together my plan of attack: probiotics, garlic, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, pomegranate concentrate, coconut oil, Vitamin C (via Emergen-C - a product I've loved for years) and a new one one me: manuka honey. I also drastically reduced my intake of white sugar. It has been a week and my skin issues are almost a thing of the past! I had faith in these items but even I am surprised by all they are doing for me. The good thing is that these are all natural items that have many health benefits and I will continue to use these to strengthen my overall being. For example, the coconut oil has helped clear breakouts as well as heal my overwashed hands and the pomegranate concentrate and probiotics have helped with years long stomach concerns.
This blog is not about preaching or all kinds of alternative medicines but I did want to share my experiences with going a more natural route. Allowing our body to heal itself and treating the route cause and not just the symptoms is an amazing and healthy lifestyle change that I'm happy to be making.
I'm right there with you, Karla! I much prefer natural remedies when I can for non-threatening health issues... apple cider vinegar is great as a gargle when you have a "gunked" up throat. I've used straight vitamin E oil for cracked skin (regular lotions always seem to irritate my skin even worse). I'll have to try that pomegranate you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great how you research everything. Great job!!
I believe in all that natural stuff too. Who knows what might be out there that is better for us.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Rosemary

ReplyDeleteOh Karla, I say ...Amen.... to all that you've written about. The natural products are so much better for us, and usually cheaper too.
ReplyDeleteI need to try the honey.... I haven't heard of that one.
It's so good to hear that your skin is improving....keep up the good work and sharing with us..
Hugs,

Right on Sugar Bear!
ReplyDeleteLove ya,

I totally agree Karla! I have been using natural methods for years and can tell you that they have worked better for me than doctor recommendations at times! I really need to get back into it. I used to be a health nut in every way, and I've really let myself go and I can completely feel the difference. You've inspired me to get back to some of my old ways!

This is fascinating. I have always believed that there is more to our world than just traditional medicine. It feels like you are seeing that, too. Your research rocks~!
ReplyDeleteI hear you Karla!
ReplyDeleteI've switched over to natural remedies for cleaning products, I should share that on my blog so people can see how easy it is to be relatively free of chemicals. Can't say I'm very good to myself though as far as what I put into me... processed foods, refined stuff... artificial sweeteners... i'll work on it. you've inspired me :)
Wow, really good stuff! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to incorporate more natural remedies, too. I'll have to try some of the things you mentioned, because after taking some very strong antibiotics (never again!) for bronchitis last month, my face has been a mess!
ReplyDeleteThankfully I have a friend who knows a lot about alternative treatments, which is a great help, too.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Karla! :-)
