Your Thoughts?

I purchased this bureau at a tag sale several years ago. I was drawn to it because I liked (and still do) the worn look of the drawer facades. I was going to paint the tan part but never got around to it.
We are (hopefully) going to be painting the living room back to the creamy white we painted it when we first moved in (and I then decided was too boring - oh how my style has evolved since then!) so I'm revisiting this bureau. I have a few days off next week and hope to tackle this project. I'm going to replace the drawer pulls (I think with clamshell style pulls) but I'm still puzzling over what to do with the rest of the bureau and if I should do anything at all.
I think I'm going to leave the drawers as is, they were the reason I loved this piece to begin with. The tan part - what do you think? Paint it? What color? Distress it? I was thinking of doing one coat of brown and then a second coat of ivory and distressing. Or should I just leave well enough alone?

OH MY GOSH I LOVE IT!!!! If it were my dresser (and I DO covet it - lol), I would leave it totally as is! If I had the time, I might distress it just as you said, but I'd leave the drawers alone - they are fabulous! As for the hardware, I like the drawer pulls, too. Clamshell style pulls would certainly be awesome too (and would pose less of a chance that little fingers would be pinched... we've had that happen here)!

IMHO, leave well enough alone, lol! I think it's beautiful as it is. If you are unsure, it is impossible to undo it if you go and paint over it. I've got a few pieces i was going to paint white, and just sat on them for a bit.. (like, 7 years), and am glad I never did. Some things just don't need anything done to them. BTW I love the handles/pulls, as they are. they're beautiful!

how funny, i have something very similar to that Karla...except mine has little curvy pieces along the side at the top and bottom...oh, don't i wish i could paint mine...hubby would sooner have a heart attack though...so i say, go for the paint...i like your ivory over brown idea...

Hey chickadee I think you should leave the drawers as is and then paint the dresser a soft greenish blue! It would blend great with the brown and bring out the distressing of them! Big hugs

I might be the wrong one to ask...cause I hate painting. Too much work.....by the time you buy the supplies put in the hours~well..too much for me.

I have really started to go with the thought...buy something that I do not have to paint. I either love it as is..or I should not buy it.

Back to your dresser..I really like the unique quality about it.
I see so much white...that I like the two~toned look. If you decide to paint....I would leave the drawers alone too and I like your pulls~lol

Did I help?

I have been reading everyone's ideas! Are we helping? heheheh:)
I vote for white and aging the finish with stain and keeping the pulls OR trying the ones you want and returning them if you do not like them+ save $!

ALSO~ do you have an accent color or color that you LOVE LOVE LOVE? think about that ~ in the drawers OR get pieces in those shades to put on top of the dresser.

hehehe, have fun deciding! I am working on one myself and I found inspiration in a favorite aqua milkglass style vase of Caitlin's that I have confiscated from her.
I will show photos once someone let's me get a new cable for my camera that someone lost!

Mary
P.s. Say! Do you think this will be one of your most favorite Spring Breaks ever!! :)

Its really pretty like that! But I do like distressing... you could even just distress it as it is, rough up the tan.

is it in your living room? I would strip it back, do an undercoat of a soft blue/grey and then top coat of white, distressing it for the grey/blue to show through in places. Keep the drawer handles:) Rachaelxo

My theory -- it's gorgeous and I'd leave it as is. I'd certainly leave the drawers alone (particularly in terms of resale value -- and hold onto the handles in case you ever do that). I like your distressing idea, and I think that would work, too. But don't mess with the drawers! Gorgeous!

If it were mine I go for white but that is what all my furniture ends up with anyway. But I love you piece As Is too. Keeps its original worn looks with true vintage color.

Thank you for coming by my blog Karla.

Hugs!!

Hi Karla!

Hope you had a romantic Valentine's Day!

I agree with the leave it alone people. Once you've painted your room cream, then I would revisit it again, maybe.

Hope you are well and enjoying your little bundle of sweetness.

Nancy
