Keeping Cool

It has been a hot few days here in Connecticut! Temps have been in the 90s and the humidity is off the charts. We are hosting a neighborhood party tonight complete with a drive-in movie in our backyard. Its so much fun, this will be our 4th year doing it. The neighborhood kids and our niece, nephews, and cousins love it. The grown-ups love it too because there is lots of food, wine and good times! Hopefully I'll have a chance to take a few photos.

In the meantime, I leave you with a few photos of some projects I have been working on. Have a wonderful and safe weekend dear friends!

This is a special necklace. My father-in-law gave me the skeleton key - it used to belong to a lock in my mother-in-law's grandfather's home (did anyone follow that!?).

This brooch was a flea market find.

And this stunner is by the talented Jennifer at Sweet Eye Candy Creations. Jenn just opened an Etsy shop - make sure to check it out!

I love the necklaces Karla - and yes I followed the story of the key :o) It's so special to have created a fun piece of jewelry with a key that belonged to the family home. The little birdy box with the crown on his head is so adorable!! I just love it. The party sounds really, really fun. Can't wait to see photos.

Karla, I came to your blog looking for a photo of Margo after you posted at Blackberry Creek. Didn't find Margo yet, but oh boy! what a beautiful blog you have. I'm not done looking, so I'm going back. Have a great day.

A comment you made on Hollyhock's blog about relatives really hit home for me. I have a relative cut of the same cloth as the individual you described. "Divorcing" him was one of the most important decisions I made as a young adult 20 years ago. Other relatives who know us both understand completely. When questioned by people who are unfamiliar with the situation,i.e., How is so-and-so?, it has always worked to say "We aren't close". Not allowing that person in my life has released an amazing amount of mental energy which I can channel into something positive. Thanks for your remarks on the topic.

Stay cool.
We're in the 90s here, too.
Hot Hot Hot

Great projects! I still have the skeleton key from my grandmas old house.
I want to use it in a collage, but haven't decided how, yet.

Hope your party was a success.

Kimberly :)

And about that movie...is it a projector? And what do we shine it on?

Love the skeleton key! I have one from my parents house. When my husband and I had to stay with them after the sale of our house, the key was for our "suite". Blessings... Polly

What fun to have a neighborhood party! That must have been quite an undertaking on your part! The idea of a drive-in sounds fabulous... our neighborhood has had several block parties, but the main outside attraction was a rented moonwalk! =)
