A Place of My Own

Hello dear friends! Many of you have read my huffing and puffing over my need for organization in my little crafting area. A few weeks ago, my sister Shelley came over to give me the kick in the bottom that I needed to make good on my words. I'm very proud to show you the results of our afternoon of hard work. I neglected to take before photos but let me tell you - there were piles of things everywhere! It was not a pretty site. I still have some additional work to do on this space - I want to get a nice stool so I can actually sit down, I want to decorate the walls with a bit more magic and fun and add some sort of window treatment to the window. My space is in half of our basement and we had some water damage - hense the hole in the wall! Hubby still needs to patch that up but all in all I'm tickled with this space!

The counter/work area you see in these photos was designed and built by Jeff last year. He also added the TV with satellite hook-up so I can keep up on my favorite shows while I work. Most times I leave it on the music stations.

Heidi made the Sugar Bear Designs sign. I decided to try a tulle hanger after reading Andrea's recent post.
I have a nice amount of space under the counter for additional storage and project bins. I'm thinking about making a curtain to cover this area. I do not sew but maybe I can teach myself or recruit a talented friend!

I put my work area to one side so that I could stretch out over the length of the counter while working on projects. I put all of my regular use items right around me. The dress form holds beads and jewelry, the polka dot box holds ribbon and trim, the blue container holds most of my glitter and Glimmer Mist. Additional glass glitter is in the salt and pepper shakers. The little 16 drawer holder is perfect for sorting and storing odds and ends.

Supplies for some of the ideas currently brewing in my head.

Ball jars and a vintage tin hold papers, brushes, markers, scissors, etc.

This is some of the ribbon and trim inside the polka dot box.

Crepe paper and tinsel - two of my favorites - have their own basket.

I was originally going to cover and paint these cigar boxes but I decided to use them for additional storage. I like their natural look. The scalloped tags came from Every Jot and Tittle.

This area holds some of my vintage jewelry.

A portion of my stash.

The bookcase came from IKEA as did the large glass containers.

This little bunny makes a perfect Moo card holder.

Some wallpaper and fabric scraps.

I thought this Black Apple print was a perfect fit for Sugar Bear Designs!

And of course Margot has to have her own little area to snuggle up in and keep me company! Behind her bed is the collage my sister made me for my 30th birthday.

Thanks for touring my little corner of the world! I also want to thank everyone for all of your kind comments on my glitter frame. I am especially happy to meet some new friends. I'll be visiting everyone and I truly appreciate the time you took to comment. It means so much to me!

Have a great day!

You did a great job organizing! I find it difficult to find places for all the little bits and pieces left over from a project, but don't want to throw away. You seem to have that problem nipped in the bud!

I'm in awe! The creativity is oozing from every inch of your space.

P.S. Hint for the curtain on your counter . . . stitch witchery and velcro make an easy, no-sew curtain - use either fabric, sheets or repurpose some thrift store curtains.

You dont have to SEW curtains, you can use Fabric-Tac, fabric glue. Just glue a hem on the bottom, and a larger 'hem' on the top, leaving enough room for a curtain rod to go thru. It will dry in about an hour or less and it's washable!
