I wanted to make something special for Father's Day for my father-in-law. Most often I am making things for all the females in my life but never really the males. I think part of it is because I just don't know what to make for a man! I'm too into glitter and flowers, and pink!
My father-in-law received a dehydrator for Christmas and has since been making the best beef jerky (yes I do eat this kind of thing and love it!). He has been doing a lot of experimenting with spices, cuts of meat, etc. so I thought a Jerky Journal would be perfect! Now he can keep notes on what it good and maybe not so good.
I saw this quote in Home Companion and absolutely loved it. It was said by Mario Cuomo and reads, "I talk and talk, and I haven't taught people in 50 years what my father taught by example in one week."
Inside cover. Love this bandanna inspired paper!
Check back here Thursday for an exciting announcement!
Hope you are having a great day.

Karla, this is lovely and he's going to love it! Not a bit of pink, either! (I adore jerky too!) The quote is perfect for this. You did a terrific job!
That's a really neat idea. I made my dh a photo book on shutterfly. It's awesome, and very personalized.
As for my dad, though, i am lost per usual. So sad!!
I will check back for your announcement! =)

Karla what a fabulous idea. It is so hard to make something for the men in our lives.
In Australia Father's Day is celebrated on the 1st Sunday in September.

What a cool idea! My grandfather cans his own jams and pickles from produce he grows in his garden. He would be tickled to get a Jam and Jelly Journal! TFS
Karla,
What a thoughtful gift to give your father in law. It came out so cute. Jerky is big down here, but I haven't brought myself to try it yet.

that looks GREAT Karla!!! it is so hard to do anything crafty for a guy, but you got it just right:)
can't wait for your NEWS!!!
A jerky journal- I love it! It is so hard to MAKE something for guys, but I think they appreciate it when we do.
Awesome gift! And I sent a book... :sigh: And I'm a beef jerkey hound. Santa leaves some in my stocking every year!
I love it Karla! It's so hard to get creative for men isn't it? Your name for it cracks me up!!! Can't say i've ever tried beef jerky, might have to wait until I'm with you for that one... I have seen it for sale here but it doesn't really sell well, I guess you have to grow up on it.. kinda reminds me of this dried beef we give the dogs, we call it SCHMACKOS, lol!!!!
don't get me wrong, SCHMACKOS actually smell good and i have been tempted more than once to try them but they are after all designed for dogs so i will stick to testing out AMerican beef jerky and if i'm lucky i can try some of Jim's!
Great idea, Karla. Bet your FIL will love it.
Karla,
What a great idea! I'm that way too, I can never think of thing to make for my guys! And an exciting announcement? Wheee...something to look forward too!!!!!!!
*Heidi*
what a cute idea for a guy Karla! I know it's so hard to come up with inventive ideas for men (except my dad who likes my crafty stuff)!
I'm LOVING the little posie pots you've been making! I saw that in Postmark LA but haven't tried anything from the book yet because I'm so enthralled by my e-zines!

A wonderful original card! You have something to announce!! Well I did one today!
Hi Sugar Bear,
Absolutely stellar!!! You should make more journals for other things!
Love ya,
Shelley
Totally great "manly" project. He'll love it!
Love the journal. I'm no jerky fan, but if you are I'll take you at your word that it tastes good and leave it at that!
Oh, such a cool journal, and it is so manly!!
Around here deer hunting is big so alot of people make "deer jerky"...I tried it, tastes just about like beef jerky once you get all those spices in it.
I guess I will have to wait for your surprise on thursday, I will be at Hersheypark for a few days getting dizzy on rides!
You are genius! It is Fabulous!

How clever!!!
VERY good Karla! I agree with Jeanie..."not a bit of pink". Now I do believe that takes even more talent!
I love the quote!
